Forest Foods began trading in 1994 in an attempt to provide an alternative to the current range of vegetarian food-to-go that was available. Sarah Bird, founder, drew on her influences from working in a Mexican restaurant in California, influences that can still be seen in the range today.
Her belief was that just because it is vegetarian does not mean that it needs to lack flavour and her aim was to create a range of vegetarian products that offered more taste and imagination than the ranges that were already on offer.
The products were tested by trading for a year with On the Eighth Day, Manchester's oldest and biggest Health food shop. At this point it was still a single handed operation run from Sarah's kitchen at home. However due to the popularity of the products enquiries started to flood in. When approached by a distributor who wanted to take the products nationwide it was time to move.
That is where we are today, in our 1200 sq ft unit in Manchester. From here we directly supply health food shops, delis and café bars within a 150 mile radius in our refrigerated vehicles. In addition our products are distributed all over the British Isles through a comprehensive network of distributors. They can even be purchased for home delivery via Goodness Direct.
We prepare all our products here from fresh high quality ingredients, everything is made to order and therefore prepared daily.
The team have all been here for a number of years now and we pride ourselves on an extremely low staff turnover. This is how we feel we offer a great level of personal service and high product consistency.
